modifications to make them faster, handle better, more luxurious, into
glitzy show winners, and they've even been turned into automotive art
pieces in museums. But the majority of them are still used to go down
the drag strip very fast and this 1978 example does exactly that. It's
been modified in a Pro Street style, meaning the larger race wheels are
all sitting under the stock bodywork, but there's drag-racing suspension
front and rear to keep weight down and help the car react to get the best
possible traction off the startline. It can cover the quarter in just
9.8 seconds at a speed of over 140 mph (225 km/h), but is something of
a crowd pleaser too, because it has exhaust headers facing upwards that
have special fuel injectors and spark plugs in each pipe to shoot flames
skywards. The front sits low, courtesy of adjustable airbag springs.
