| | FORD MODEL A PICK-UP (1929) CAR HISTORYCar review on FORD MODEL A PICK-UPLike most early Fords, the Model A was subject to much modification
but still emained in the shadow of the 1932 Ford, which could naturally
take a V8 engine as it had a Flathead eight-cylinder as standard. The
A could just about take one at a squeeze, though many hot rodders used
the 1932's chassis with the lighter A body on it to make their hot rods.
This particular car uses a virtually stock Model A pick-up body mounted
on a separate chassis based on the dimensions of the original frame. At
the front, this car uses a beam axle which is similar to the original
set-up, but which has kick-ups either side of the beam in order to allow
the body to sit lower. The engine is a mildly tuned version of Ford's
much later Windsor small-block V8 engine, and the power is handled by
a 9-inch (227mm) live axle, which is of similar vintage to the motor.
