lower Bonnevilles had been introduced in 1959 and were acclaimed for their
slender, sporty looks and good road-holding. They carried on in similar
mechanical guise for 1960, but this was the only year that, styling-wise,
the Pontiacs didn't have the split grille. Underneath, the car used a
X-braced chassis with unequal-length wishbone front suspension and a live
rear axle. Changes were made to the rear suspension with the attachments
points of the upper-control arms raised and given stiffer bushings to
better locate the axle. Other changes to the drive train included a redesign
of the bellhousing to lower the transmission tunnel and give an inch extra
room inside the car. The standard engine was again the 389 ci (6.3-litre)
as in 1959, but the top option was the 10.5:1 compression unit which ran
with a high-lift camshaft, less restrictive heads and a Tri-Power intake.
