Prix name had been around for many years, it didn't use much in the way
of modern technology nor looks until it switched to front-wheel drive
in 1988. It got sporty styling that year, marking it out significantly,
and the looks were backed up by performance, thanks to the same basic
turbocharged engine as in the fire-breathing Grand Nationals from just
a couple of years before. Into the 1990s the car was renamed the GTP instead
of Turbo, then in 1994 got new styling, then again in 1996, which has
since become the car's most successful guise. In GPX form it used a supercharger
but remained front-wheel drive. The suspension had revised geometry with
more negative camber on the front wheels to improve cornering. A GM first
was the heads-up display, which projected the speed and other functions
onto the windshield.
