Pontiac's sporty answer to the Camaro, and was the most sought-after of
the all the Firebirds. The sheet metal was based on the Camaro, but a
new nose with split grille and double headlamps either side ensured the
looks remained pure Pontiac. The car was named after the American race
series, so came with all the right components fitted to make it a street
racer, uprated springs and shocks and more powerful brakes being just
a some of the parts. The owner of this car has gone one step further by
fitting rear discs brakes from a 1979 model Trans Am, and there are wide
7 x15 inch (178 x381 mm) rims with 235/60 tyres to take fnll advantage
of the new powertrain. Long gone is the original small-block, in favour
of a late-model Tuned Port Injection small-block, which gives as much
power but with more miles per gallon and better manners.
