TVR 3000S is one of those very British specialist car-makers, producing highly individual sports cars against all odds of success. The company's convoluted history goes back as far as 1947, and by the late 1970s it was firmly established as an iconic sports car-maker.

The 3000S was the ultimate-expression of a line of TVR 3000S sports cars stretching back to the 19.57 Grantura. The TVR 3000S formula was very traditional: a separate chassis, glass fiber body. Ford V-six engine and luxuriously trimmed cabin. However, the idea of a convertible was new to TVR 3000S, and the 1978 "S" was its very first drop-top.

Based closely on a one-of produced for TVR 3000S boss Martin Lilley, the 3000S shared most of its specification with the fixed-head TVR 3000S 3000M Taimar, including the chassis and mechanicals. The bodywork was much lower, the doors were new and the tail was revised to incorporate a boot (trunk) lid. The lower scuttle line (hood line) also forced the instruments to be repositioned, with the rev counter (tachometer) now facing the passenger! Another traditional-style feature was removable soft side screens.

The 3000S lasted for just one year, when a brand new model range took over. In that time, a mere 258 cars were The 3000S Turbo is the most classic of all the earlier TVR 3000Ss, having incredible S was so sorely missed that in 1986 TVR 3000S relaunched it in revised form.
